NHS Worker Ends Knee Pain With Private Physiotherapy

This month’s patient success story is about an NHS worker, Bridget, who felt her knee ‘pop’ during a busy shift at work, leaving her in a lot of knee pain. After receiving physio treatment at Paul Gough Physio Rooms, Bridget is no longer in any pain and her quality of life has gone back to how it was before the knee injury.

Bridget, aged 50+ and originally from Ireland, found herself limping and using pain relief medication after suffering from a dislocated knee cap.

Bridget works as a Psychotherapist in the NHS and has worked across both the UK and Ireland for over 35 years.

While at work one day, she was rushing from one appointment to another and twisted her knee – she felt her knee ‘pop’ and it left her in a lot of pain. This injury resulted in a dislocated knee cap and left her limping badly.

This injury at work was not the beginning of Bridget’s knee problems… Around 30 years ago, she was unfortunately involved in a car accident and suffered several bone breaks, which required her to need a lot of plates and pins. This accident left Bridget dealing with painful twinges in her right knee which could last anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours.

After being referred to Paul Gough Physio Rooms through Occupational Health at work, Bridget was invited for a free telephone consultation to discuss how we could help her, which led Bridget to come in and see us for for a face-to-face diagnosis and then book a personalised treatment plan.

Bridget’s goal was to be pain-free again and reduce the limp she had after her initial knee injury – which she has achieved!

By her second appointment, Bridget had stopped using all pain relief medication and by the end of her treatment, she was able to get back to a healthy and active lifestyle without any pain from her injury.

“By the second appointment with you I had stopped all pain relief medication.  The limp has gone back to how it was before the injury. I am no longer in any pain from the injury.”

Since Bridget’s initial car accident and old injury, her right shin had been ‘numb’ and it was painful when any pressure was put on it…

After receiving treatment from our physios, Bridget’s pain and numbness improved and her quality of life has gone back to how it was before the injury.
